Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 15, 2026.

This Privacy Policy explains how Broken Link Checker (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use broken-links-checker.com (the “Site”), the Broken Link Checker Chrome extension (the “Extension”), and related services (collectively, the “Services”).

Our Principles

  • Privacy information should be clear and easy to find.
  • We collect only the information needed to operate the Services.
  • Link checks should stay private and run locally in your browser.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

If you contact us, we receive the name, email address, and message you submit. Contact form submissions are relayed to our support inbox and are not stored in the application.

If you rate the Extension or answer the feedback or uninstall survey on the Site, we receive the rating, the reasons you select, the message you write, and your email address if you choose to leave it. These answers are stored in a log on our server and forwarded to the developer through Telegram. We use them only to improve the Extension and to let you know when a problem you reported is fixed.

When you sign in to the Extension or purchase a paid plan, your email address is collected so the Services can identify your subscription, provide access to paid features, and send transaction or support communications.

Website Usage Information

Our hosting, security, and analytics providers may process technical information about visits to the Site, such as IP address, browser and device type, requested pages, referring page, approximate location, and visit timestamps. On ordinary Site pages, analytics loads only after you accept analytics cookies. The exception for the one-time install confirmation page is described under Online Analytics below.

Chrome Extension

Link checks are performed locally in your browser. The URLs found on the page you scan and the resulting link statuses are not sent to our servers.

The Extension connects to app.broken-links-checker.com when needed to sign you in, open the payment flow, and check the status of your plan. Your email address is processed for sign-in and purchase-related purposes.

Payments and Kobaltstack LLC

Kobaltstack LLC is the seller and merchant of record for paid Broken Link Checker plans. Your contract for a paid plan is with Kobaltstack LLC. Kobaltstack LLC handles payments and refunds through its payment service providers and may process information needed to complete a purchase, prevent fraud, issue receipts, and handle refunds.

Payment card details are submitted directly to Kobaltstack LLC's payment service providers. Broken Link Checker does not receive, see, or store full payment card numbers.

How We Use Information

We use information only as needed to:

  • provide and maintain the Site and Extension;
  • authenticate users and verify plan status;
  • process purchases and refunds through our payment partners;
  • respond to questions, support requests, and feedback;
  • measure Site traffic and improve the Site;
  • protect the Services from fraud, abuse, and security threats; and
  • comply with legal obligations.

When We Disclose Information

We may disclose information to:

  • Kobaltstack LLC and its payment service providers for purchases, subscription administration, fraud prevention, and refunds;
  • hosting, security, analytics, and email providers that process information on our behalf;
  • government authorities or other parties when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, and security; and
  • a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, or transfer of the Services, subject to applicable law.

We do not sell personal information or share it with advertisers for targeted advertising.

Legal Basis for Processing Personal Data

Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on the performance of a contract when providing paid features, legitimate interests in operating and securing the Services and responding to users, consent for analytics where required, and compliance with legal obligations.

Online Analytics

The Site uses Google Analytics and, on the install confirmation page, Yandex Metrica to collect and analyze aggregate traffic and usage information. These services may process information such as your IP address, device and browser data, pages visited, referring page, and visit timestamps. These analytics services are used on the Site and are not included in the Extension.

Google Analytics (provided by Google LLC, United States) is used to measure aggregate traffic and engagement across the Site. To prevent Google Analytics from using your information for analytics, you may install the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Yandex Metrica (provided by Yandex LLC, Russian Federation) is used only on the install confirmation page to measure traffic, click behavior, and aggregated usage patterns. Data collected by Yandex Metrica may be transferred to and processed in the Russian Federation, which is not subject to an EU adequacy decision. You can opt out of Yandex Metrica tracking at yandex.com/support/metrica/general/opt-out.html.

Install confirmation page. When you install the Extension, your browser opens a one-time post-install confirmation page (/welcome). On that page we load Google Analytics and Yandex Metrica without showing the cookie banner so that we can measure how many users complete the installation flow. Yandex Metrica is used only to count visits to /welcome and does not track visits to other pages. Google Analytics loaded on /welcome may remain active if you navigate to another page in the same session. The cookie banner continues to be shown to users who arrive directly on other pages, and the consent gate continues to govern whether Google Analytics loads on those visits.

Cookies and Local Storage

The Site uses cookies and browser storage for analytics and to remember whether you accepted analytics. On ordinary Site pages, Google Analytics does not load unless you select Accept in the cookie banner. You can clear a previous choice and stored data using your browser settings. Blocking storage may prevent preferences from being remembered.

Your Choices and Data Subject Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal information, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. To make a request, email [email protected]. You may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

International Transfers

Our service providers may process information outside your country of residence. As described above, Yandex Metrica data may be processed in the Russian Federation. Google Analytics and payment-related data may also be processed in countries with different data protection laws. Where required, appropriate safeguards are used for international transfers.

Security Measures

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

Children

The Services are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes described in this Policy, including providing the Services, supporting users, maintaining transaction records, preventing fraud, resolving disputes, and meeting legal obligations. Our service providers retain information according to their own policies and our agreements with them.

Third-Party Links and Services

The Site and Extension may link to services we do not operate. Their collection and use of information is governed by their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review those policies before providing information.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Policy when the Services, our providers, or legal requirements change. We will post the updated Policy on this page and revise the effective date above. We will provide additional notice when required by law.
